ANN ARBOR– All business.

That’s what this team is all about– business.

All business.

Ashley’s Aventinus (7-2-3) got back on track with a 2-0 win Wednesday night against the Ice-o-topes 2, putting them into a three-way tie for first place. The Leafs (8-2-1) and Goaldiggers (8-3-1) have more wins, but Aventinus remains confident, having tied both teams in head-to-head matches.

When asked, no one seemed the least bit concerned, evidenced by the lack of commentary.

All business.

Paul Sholtis stopped all shots to earn his first shut-out of the season, and the team’s second. Sholtis is 2-0 and has a gaudy 0.50 GAA, making him the envy of the league. “Paul’s been working real hard on improving his skills,” said GM Mark Woods. “Every day, I see him working with our goalie coach (hall of fame goalie Ricky Winowiecki).”

All business.

Aventinus got two unassisted goals in the first period from Scott Bray and Chris Boulter. The first came six minutes into the game, followed by the other about six minutes later.

The game then became a defensive classic. The defense remained hard-nosed earning penalties from Ed Boucher (2nd period) and Daryl Coleman (3rd period), sending the message:

“All business.”

In a team filled with all-stars, it would be easy for players to start talking about contract renegotiations, playing time, or personal accomplishments. Chris Sutton (8) and Jeff Phillion (8) lead the team in goals. Joe Crossno  and Dave Ferguson each have six assists. Boucher and Phillion– known as the Bruise Cruise– each have 21 minutes in penalties. The team boasts its best record since joining the league lo the many year ago (or so).

However, this team is not about personal glory. Ever about efficiency and winning, the game was stoically summed up by defenseman Ron Coleman: “We scored twice in the first and held on for a 2-0 win.”

No worries or concerns. Just good goals and great defense.

And, if they aren’t careful, maybe even a championship.

All business.
