Sutton-ly Aventinus in 1st Place

ANN ARBOR– It may only last until tonight, but right now the once-lowly Aventinus team sits atop the standings with 19 points after beating Bell’s Beer 5-2 Sunday night in a bitterly fought game.

“They were a bunch of jerks,” exclaimed defenseman Ron Coleman.

Indeed, 9 of the 14 penalties came at the hands of Bell’s Beer, totaling 48 minutes. Three game misconducts were handed out (Pakota (2), Browning).

“They were a bunch of jerks,” said Coleman. “Only four of them stayed to shake hands.”

Judging from the game misconducts, there were only about four left to shake hands.

“The team seemed docile enough when they were up 2-0 in the first,” said GM Mark Woods. “I guess five unanswered goals will make you a bit grouchy, eh?”

Credit the goals to Chris… Boulter for one and Sutton for four. While the team expressed joy, some expressions were tempered with concern. “I hope Chris doesn’t get moved to Tier I after this,” said forward Ginny Klinesteker. The comment comes after the controversial decision by Inter-League officials to remove Hopslam skater Matt Schaefer to a different league (the so-called “C” League).

When asked about the decision by officials, Coleman summed it up best: “They were a bunch of jerks.”
