Rough Rough Rough, Dogs Nip Hopslam

ANN ARBOR–Ashley’s Hopslam fell to the Ice Dogs in an overtime shootout Tuesday night on Olympic. Tied 1-1 with a 5-on-3 advantage, Hopslam could not convert in a third period marked by two late penalties for the Dogs. Nor could they take advantage of two more penalties in the five-minute overtime skate, and had to settle things with a shootout.

Goaltender Ricky Winowiecki held strong, but the Dogs were able to slip the last shot by. Forward Shawn Lopez, who scored Hopslam’s lone goal in the second, could not convert to keep the team in play.

Lost in the excitement of the game was the fact that so few skaters showed for the game. Among the missing included Al Juback, Keith Kotimko, Brent Tomayko, Brittany Szczepanik, Steve Gorham, Even Feezel, and Paul Sholtis. “Where were these guys?” asked Tom Colis.

“I don’t know,” said a confused GM Mark Woods. “If I didn’t know better, I’d think these guys went off and formed their own hockey team.”

Added Woods: “I did notice there’s a new team called the Bashley’s IHateMarkWoodses, but I didn’t think that was related to anything. There’s gotta be a million teams in beer league hockey with that name.”

None of the missing players had any comment regarding the new team, but Bob Brock and Gary Witt noted that it wasn’t the worst team name they have ever heard.
