Ruination Right at Home

ANN ARBOR–Ashley’s Ruination picked up where they left off last Spring with a 5-1 win over Black Ops Tuesday night to open the Fall campaign. Defenseman Sean Payeur had a goal and two assists and 16 minutes in penalties before being ejected in the third period.

“You look like you’re playing favorites,” stated Jason Spence (goal, assist) to the referees in reference to the penalties. Spence then received 22 minutes and a game misconduct.

“It’s good to see our team pick up where we left off,” said GM Mark Woods.

Goalie Rusty Barron was solid at net, turning away all shots, excepting the one he inadvertently knocked in while stacking the pads. “Oh, Rusty!” exclaimed Matt Schaefer ruefully, wishing– almost  willing– the shut out.

Barron, however, waxed philosophic. “As we roll down this unfamiliar road,” he began, but couldn’t seem to find the words.

Indeed, the season is filled with uncertainty: rival Goon Squad moved to another league, newly arriving Oilers are untested, and new addition Jordan Swift (goal) and returning forward Dexter Benda (back from the Eisbundesbierentrinkenliga in Munich, Germany show a great deal of promise but need time to gel with the team.

Coupled with a tough Summer semi-final loss just weeks ago, Ruination has every right to feel a bit lost. “We’re gonna make this place our home,” stated a resolute Woods.

Pop singer Phillip Phillips will be appearing at Aaron’s Amphitheatre at Lakewood September 27 in Atlanta Georgia with John Mayer. Following the show, he will be gone, gone, gone to Albuquerque, New Mexico October 1. Tickets available through Live Nation.
