ANN ARBOR–How does the saying go– his cup overfloweth? Presumably with goals and victories? In the curious case of Ricky Winowiecki, one can only conclude that the the cup merely floweth, good for three goals, a win, and a tie. Unfortunately for Hopslam, the goals and the win were expended in a Ruination game prior to their 2-2 tie with the Bears.
“Sorry,” apologized Winowiecki. The centerman wore his “magical” makeshift cup after scoring three goals with the same configuration in a Ruination game. However, whatever magic was to be found had seemingly run out in the Hopslam game, as the team could only muster a tie.
Winowiecki added that his play was not an extension of his previous game, much to the dismay of Beer League Fantasy Hockey fans who made late trades for Winowiecki following his early season hat-trick in what many had hoped would be his break-out year statistically.
Mike Leighton netted both goals for Hopslam, while goaltender Paul Sholtis rebounded from a tough Saturday night loss to preserve the tie for the team despite a late flurry from the Bears.
Amid mixed results, the team remains upbeat regarding the future. “If you ain’t first, you’re last,” said defenseman Mark Woods. “Unless, of course, there are more than two teams in the league– in which case we could be second or third maybe even fourth. And, that ain’t so bad.”
“I like NASCAR,” added Woods, whose family originally hails from South Carolina, explaining many things, including his occasional use of “y’all” in casual conversation, his love for liberty and “fightin’,” and his skill as a hockey player, which remains pending.
