ANN ARBOR– General Manager Mark Woods expressed dismay over the last second loss Monday night to the Black Bears 4-5, who managed to extend the championship series to a decisive third game. “Sure would have been nice to have won last night,” noted Woods in obvious pain. “The Mega Millions Jackpot is now at $586 million dollars.”
Added Woods: “They say it may get up to a billion dollars by this weekend’s drawing.”
“They” to whom Woods was referring was the 100.3 WNIC morning radio hosts, featuring Jay Towers and Donielle “Doni” Flynn. The radio station has been playing non-stop Christmas and holiday music since early November.
Ruination fell early 0-1 in the first, but battled back only to watch the Black Bears build a 3-1 lead. “I’m not worried,” said defenseman Mark Woods. “Once I win that jackpot, everything will be okay.”
Ruination went on the tie the game at 3-3 in the third, and again at 4-4 with just over a minute left. A bad bounce and a breakaway opportunity with just seconds left forced the team to face a final game.
“I thought for sure it was going to be like the first time,” said Matt Schaefer, referring to Ruination’s first championship in the Winter 2012 season. “I was ready for overtime!”
“Don’t worry boys,” said Sean Payeur. “We’ve got the home ice advantage.”
Said Woods: “If everybody pitches in, we’ll definitely have a better chance of winning. We could easily buy like 80 or 90 tickets. We’d win for sure!”
