ANN ARBOR– Ashley’s Aventinus marched methodically past St. Anky Beer 3-1 Wednesday night, scoring a goal in each period. Tom Colis (goal, assist) opened the scoring in the first, followed by Nate Greenman’s goal in the second, and defenseman Mark Woods closed the door on any comeback bid, scoring late in the third. “Each of us got our period,” said Woods.
That’s what she said.
The game featured five defenseman for the evening, rolling lines (an expression meaning to substitute skaters individually) rather than running pairs. The result was shorter shifts, which allowed the defense to swarm St. Anky’s stronger skaters, minimizing open ice opportunities. The added defenseman also gave skaters time to rest between shifts. “I do my best work when I’m rested,” said Ron Coleman.
That’s what she said.
The locker room celebration included light beer and light conversation over sports apparel. Jen Perry noted that she liked the Ashley’s sweatpants (available only by special order). “They’re roomy. It allows me to bring things to the rink I couldn’t bring before.”
That’s what she said. It really was.
“I’ll leave my pants here next time,” added Ken Coleman.
