Upbeat Hopslam Beaten by Topes

ANN ARBOR– General Manager Mark Woods took the sunny-side-of-the-street approach to Tuesday’s 1-4 loss against the Ice-o-Topes. “We improved each period,” said Woods. “Three more periods and we would have won.”

Hopslam started the game with only seven skaters as Luke Bell was forced to wait for his skates to arrive. When asked if he used a reliable carrier such as FedEx or even the U.S. Postal Service, Bell admitted he tried a new carrier: Pfast Phillion Delivery Service, headed by CEO and founder Jeff Phillion, whose marketing motto is: “I’ll be there on time, unless I fall asleep to a Netflix movie.”

The team fell back two goals by the end of the first period, but goalie Steve Gorham heldĀ the ‘Topes to just one goal in the second. However, the offense was not to be found. When asked what sort of off-season training regimen players followed, forward Bob Brock expressed surprise the “12-ounce curls” did not improve his play. He vowed to curl more following the game.

Al Juback scored the team’s lone goal in the third after the team gave up a quick goal to start the period. Woods was happy to note that the team tied the ‘Topes in the third, noting that a fourth period would have seen seen a scoring turn-around. A five and sixth period would ultimately have led to a win, he noted.

Woods, not typically noted for such a positive outlook, admitted that he had been listening to motivational speaker Anthony Robbins again. “As Tony Robbins says, ‘the quality of your life is the quality of your communication.’ I’m not sure what that means, but think me talk good life good.”
