ANN ARBOR– In an act of pure heroism mixed with the unbridled spirit of high-stakes sports gambling, forward John Vella absorbed the brunt of a vicious goalie tackle to slam home a last second goal to give Ashley’s Ruination the 11-1 win, covering the spread.

“He’s a good kid,” said Vinny “Two Fingers” Mascarpone, whose business is in legitimate exports, that’s right, legitimate exports, speaking via satellite from Las Vegas. “He keeps his mouth shut and he does his job.”
The spread was threatened early in the third period over a controversial goal from Yaks winger Brian Gale. “It was a high stick,” noted defenseman Drew Dehring. Goaltender Anthony Ciatti spoke quietly with the referee over matters that of no concern. However, according to Ciatti, the referee “turned white and skated away.”
Play resumed, but the team grew concerned that the spread would not be covered. “We’ll get it back,” said defenseman Matt Helm (assist) with confidence. Thanks to Vella’s goal (his second for the evening), Ashley’s did just that.
A true team effort, Brian LeFevre added two goals, while Paul Drevnick, Andrew Thompson, Matt Schaefer, Ricky Winowiecki, James Cogswell (son of famed CEO and founder of Cogswell’s Cogs), Drew Dehring, and Shawn Lopez all chipped in with goals and assists. Dave Winn finished with four assists.
