Aventinus Wins 2-1 in Wildcard Game

Whether they are fast cars or weird looking fish, Barracuda fell Sunday night to an Aventinus team hungry for wins after leading the league in ties with eight.

“We had eight ties this season,” said defenseman Mark Woods. “That’s a lot.”

Aventinus gave up a goal in the first period, but did not panic, fighting off a 5-on-3 in the second period before forward Ken Coleman poked one through the goaltender’s pads. Defenseman Daryl Coleman grabbed the lead with a laser shot to the upper corner. The team held on in the third, as Rusty Barron proved to be the shut-down goalie the team needed.

Aventinus will wait for its next opponent as it moves on to the quarterfinals Wednesday.
