Aventinus’ New Strategy: Score Goals, Win

ANN ARBOR– Jeff Price suffered a “lower body injury” Wednesday as Hopslam battled the Ice-o-Topes 2, with Aventinus down by a goal. Initial reports suggested an ankle or knee sprain, while other reports mentioned a possible yeast infection. However, doctors confirmed an inexplicable jolt felt in what is said to be Price’s sciatic nerve.

Price literally lit a fire under himself in the second period (above), sustaining a game-ending injury, but inspired Aventinus to a 2-1 win

“I went to kick the puck, and suddenly I felt a jolt,” said Price.

He later described the pain to be not unlike fire lit near his rear section. Goaltender Chris Sutton used the metaphor as inspiration following the second period. “Hey guys,” he said, “how about we try scoring some goals.”

The astonished Aventinus team immediately approved the heretofore unheard of strategy. “I never thought to do that,” said forward Gary Witt. Witt also admitted to including shaving his beard and skating quickly back on defense to that list.

Inspired, Scott Bray scored both goals in the third, assisted by an equally inspired Witt (2 assists) and Mark Johnston (1 assist) to complete the 2-1 comeback win.

Teammate and avid punster Dave Ferguson was not at the game, but most certainly would have made some sort of “Price to pay” comment while drinking from his snifter of cognac. He would then show his appreciation for “low-brow” puns by saying that both “Price and the team had a fire lit under their (bleeps)” tonight.

Price, however, summed it up best: “We won in spite of (defenseman Mark) Woods skating with us.”
