ANN ARBOR– In an odd and inexplicable trend, Ashley’s Hopslam scored four goals for the fifth straight game, this time resulting in a 4-1 win over the Ice-o-Topes early Wednesday morning. Despite a skeleton crew, Hopslam dominated the Topes as Matt Okray scored two in the second period. “That guy has no business in this league,” said a Topes player.

A visibly tired Nate Greenman answers questions at the press conference following a hard-fought 4-1 win over the Ice-o-Topes and keeping the nation together Wednesday.
The assessment, however, did not account for the solid play of the entire team, including three assists from Chris Sutton, two assists from defenseman Mark Woods, and a goal and assist from Bernie Bachli, and a goal from David Gaydos, who leads the team with five.
In addition, goaltender Jeff Phillon, who was picked up on waivers from Thompson’s following a tough loss, “stood on his head,” blocking all shots but one– a rebound from behind the net that unfortunately bounced right back to the stick of Topes forward Gerald King.
However, good, solid defensive play from the entire team, including defensemen Lauren Lobert and Chris Sutton late in the game ensured a win. “That was part of the deal,” smiled center Nate Greenman, who noted that Hopslam was a team “conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men [and women] are created equal.”
With only nine skaters, Hopslam played efficiently, keeping line changes quick, and the beer nice and cold. “We were concerned Scottie (Coates) wouldn’t make it to the game,” said GM Mark Woods. “But, he managed to bring the beer Joe DeRose bought, so we’re happy.”
