Ruination Take a Pass on Winning

A patchwork Ruination team (0-1) that included several Hopslam skaters was no match for Winter champions Goon Squad (1-0), falling 4-8 Saturday night. Goon Squad’s newly acquired Steve Sienkiewicz had three assists in his debut. “This guy’s even better than the guy they kicked off the team!” exclaimed an exasperated Mark Woods.

Winger Dave Winn, returning from a shoulder injury, was surprised to find a much improved Goon Squad. “I’m trying to determine how they scored so many goals,” he said.

“They passed more,” said winger Jon Molnar.

There certainly seems to be some evidence to support that claim, as Goons Adam Skiff (formerly known as the “fat guy with the red helmet”) and Tim Weaver each had four assists, with team notching 13 in all. This is in sharp contrast to the two assists for the four goals scored for Ruination.

“When Mark Woods is among the leaders in points,  we are in some serious trouble,” said GM Mark Woods. Woods is tied with Paul Sholtis in assists and tied with three others for second in points.

On the positive side, Ruination was able to put up more points on a much stronger Goon Squad team despite missing several key skaters. Goals were balanced, two coming from the wingers (Joel Benton and John Vella) and two from the defense (Sholtis and Brett Vogel).
