Yaks Get Smacks

Ashley’s Aventinus (1-0) started the new season with a very convincing 4-2 win over rival Yaks 2 (0-1). The once anemic offense looked fully loaded with newly acquired wingers Chris Sutton, Jeff Phillion, and Chris Boulter, who accounted for all four goals.

Talent scout Paul Sholtis found Sutton in one of the so-called “One-timers” league. “He’ll be your ringer,” predicted a very confident Sholtis.

The prediction proved accurate as Sutton immediately pressured the taken-back Yaks. After a scoreless first period, Boulter punched in the first goal, and was followed a few minutes later with a goal from Phillion. Sutton made it 3-0 early in the third, but a Yak attack was not to be denied as winger Jennifer “Adam” Lambert feathered on past goaltender Ryan “Seacrest” Bidwell.

“You just can’t predict it,” noted Bidwell on Lambert’s shooting.

There was no lack of Yak scoring as Tom Wolak blasted one  through late in the third. However, Aventinus was not to be denied, fighting off Yak hacks before Phillion threw in an empty-netter to seal the victory.

The Yaks will be back May 8 in a rematch that many are calling Yaks 2 Electric Boogaloo.
