Aventinus Snatch Tie From Jaws of Victory

Defenseman Ed Boucher wishes he could have one play back. “I should have passed it harder or else not at all,” he said, stricken.

The errant pass to which he was referring came while Aventinus (3-1-1) was on the power play Sunday night with just over a minute left in the game and a 2-1 lead in hand. Goaldigger John “Two-Tiers-and-a” Puckett, however,  intercepted the pass and scored his second goal of the night to tie the game and deny Aventinus the chance to start 4-1 for the season.

The team had to settle for a 2-2 tie.

“Still no ‘W’ for me,” said a disappointed Jeff “Fillin’ In” Phillion, who filled in valiantly at net.

“That’s on us,” said defenseman Mark Woods, who scored his first goal of the season in the first period. “We’ve averaged four goals a game so far, and we came up short this time. We have to do better.”

Curiously, forward Ginny Klinesteker was credited with an assist for the game despite not having played since April 7. When asked, referee Jeff Price– whose role infamous “Puck-ola Scandal” in 2009 has never been confirmed, responded with surprise. “Did you see last night’s score sheet? Ginny (Klinesteker) assisted on the goal!”

The surprise from Price is a bit suspect in light of the fact that Price is, in fact, the one who relays the results to the scorekeeper. Team and league officials are investigating further.
