Aventinus: All In, All Win

ANN ARBOR–Ashley’s Aventinus (9-3-3) earned its first winning season after dismantling North Coast 5-1 Wednesday night. The team jumped out to a 3-0 with two goals coming from Steven Golmbisky and never looked back.

“Score early, score often,” said defenseman Ron Coleman. “It’s a formula that works.”

Scott Bray started the scoring early in the first period. Second period goals by Chris Sutton and Jeff Phillion capped off the offensive onslaught.

Goaltending played a large part in the victory as Paul Sholtis pushed his record to 4-1 with a 1.40 GAA, including one of the team’s two shutouts.

“I’m in,” said a quietly confident Sholtis.

In fact, that’s been the team’s battle cry for the entire season. And, for the first time since the team joined the league, they’ve added W’s to the “in.”

When confronted with the prospect of a ten-win season, the team reacted with surprise and excitement. “That knocked me on my (bleep),” said Coleman. The team will face Goon Squad Sunday.
