Brock Ready For Fame, Fortune

ANN ARBOR–Winger Bob Brock asked reporters what it would take to get noticed by the media and the fans. The long list included: hard work, winning personality, deeper understanding of the game, maybe back checking once in awhile. A blank stare followed, prompting a broader statement.

“Score two goals in a game, Bob.”

And, that’s exactly what he did. With the help of the Production Line of Mike Leighton (3 assists) and Scotty “Technicolor Dream” Coates (goal, assist), Brock came alive in the late third period, willing the team to victory. Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite enough, as Bearshark’s Ann Locke threaded one past the Hopslammers with just :27 seconds left in the game, giving Ashley’s its first loss of the season.

Undaunted, Brock expressed relief to finally be mentioned in a news article read all over the United States by a smattering of friends and family members of the team. However, reporters were quick to mention that “Chris (Boulter’s) friend in North Carolina might not read Hopslam articles,” since Boulter plays for Ashley’s Aventinus.

Asked about his newly found fame and fortune, Brock mentioned the noticeable jump in attention from the fans. “This girl at the rink keeps telling me she likes my pullover,” said Brock.

Brock vowed to remain humble, continue drinking beer following games, and to look up the meaning of back-checking and possibly maybe probably not give it a whirl.
