Aventinus Wins in Heart of Farm Country

HOOTERVILLE–Traveling many miles through the back roads of rural America, Aventinus faced a Green Archers team Wednesday night, skating away with a 4-1 victory despite the adverse conditions.

“Sorry I’m late!” said an exasperated Jeff Meden who missed the team bus and had to hitchhike to the game on the back of a truck hauling chickens and hay.

However, Meden was just in time to score the first goal of the game, assisted by winger Dave Ferguson and defenseman Ron Coleman, who has been on a scoring tear this season with a career best 4 assists.

Following the period, the team was surprised at the “rustic” technology that seemed thematic for the locale. “That was a tractor, right?” asked Justin Baier (goal, assist) in reference to what was, in fact, the Zamboni.

Ferguson, with the help of Baier and winger Jen Perry (2 assists), knocked in what proved to be the game-winner early in the second period.

“We’re gonna need two more goals to win,” said defenseman Mark Woods following the second period.

Baier and Meden added the prescribed goals to ensure the win, with center Scott Bray adding assists for both.

Following the victory, GM Mark Woods noted the charm of “farm livin’,” but admitted that he gets “allergic smelling hay” and that he’d prefer city life. “Dah-ling I love you, but give me Park Avenue,” he said with a slight and inexplicable Hungarian accent.

The team finished the evening with a stay at the Shady Rest Hotel, and plan to catch the Hooterville Cannonball Express westbound for the friendlier climes of the team’s home ice in Ann Arbor, where they will face Barracuda next Sunday, a team noted for their Heart.
