Hopslam Hits on Chick Goalie, Love Returns

ANN ARBOR– Fans were treated to a “Night Club Nite” on Varsity as Hopslam beat back the Bears 7-4 Saturday, marking the return of referee Harry Love and debut of Bear goaltender Michelle Yurcak.

“She got hit on more times than, uh…” began GM Mark Woods, “than something that gets hit on a lot of times.”

Cleverness notwithstanding, Hopslam did in fact score with Yurcak, who managed to deflect most of the passes made, but few of the shots. Several of the easier passes to deflect included: Heaven’s missing an angel tonight, Do you believe in love at first sight or should I skate by again, and Yo baby, wanna do it?

Several that got through included three from Andrew Thompson and two from Steve Gorham. “I guess she likes her pick up lines like she likes her men… forward,” said Woods.

Woods noted immediately, however, that “Gorham is a defenseman, so… I guess that, uh… that joke doesn’t quite work.”

Serving as wing men were forwards Ricky Winowiecki (2 assists) and Keith Kotimko (3 assists). Woods tried to make the “forward” joke again before being reminded that Kotimko played defense Saturday night.

Meanwhile referee Harry Love returned from an extended hiatus from D1 Hockey after being replaced by referee Harold Palms. “Now that Harry Love is back, we don’t need Harry Palms,” said Woods, still trying desperately to garner a laugh.
