ANN ARBOR–Ashley’s Aventinus has jumped out to a quick start with back-to-back wins, including a 6-0 win over Yaks 2 Sunday night. Chris Boulter capped off his triumphant return by scoring early in the first and attracting the fan from the other game into the rink.
“Hey, if you see a cute little blond in the other rink, would you tell her to come here?” Boulter requested, brimming with confidence.
Jeff Meden scored a natural hat-trick and Ginny Klinesteker and Tom Colis each assisted on the other’s goal with pinpoint passing and shooting.
They’re the new Dynamic Duo,” praised GM Mark Woods. “They’re the new Steve & Eydie!”
Amid the celebration, teammates expressed confusion and concern, first over who exactly Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme were, then over where teammate Les Withrow was. “Where’s Les?” asked defenseman Ron Coleman.
Goal-tender Ryan Bidwell, who earned the first shutout of the new season, was noticeably cryptic. “Les is more. More is Les.” He then referred to “General Westmoreland” or “less more land in general.” He later mentioned Les Nessman, radio weatherman, who famously reported turkeys falling from the sky, “hitting the ground like sacks of wet cement.”
It was not certain if Global Warming had anything to do with the incident, or if Les Withrow had anything to do with it.
Station manager Arthur Carlson had only this to say: “As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!”
