ANN ARBOR– Goaltender Luke Hattie became only one of two goalies in the entire Southeastern region of the stat of Michigan to skip the Super Secret Goalie Convention (SSGC) to play for Ashley’s Aventinus Wednesday night, guiding the team to a scoreless tie.
“At approximately 800pm, according to GM Mark Woods, Russell “Rusty” Barron sent a message informing management that he would be unable to play that evening,” said an Ashley’s official. “He claimed car trouble as the reason.”
Innocuous enough, team managers contacted the back-up goalie (Paul Sholtis). “I just go this,” Sholtis replied in a text. “Can’t make it. Really sorry.”
Suspicions ran high when goaltenders Anthony Ciatti, Ricky Winowiecki, and Shawn Lopez all stated that they were unable to play. “their answers were a little too pat,” said Woods. “Lopez said he was not at home, and Steve (Gorham) said he was not in the state.”
Sources later confirmed that the 3rd annual SSGC was held Wednesday night “somewhere near Toledo.”
Hattie had no comment regarding the convention, but said that the scoreless game was most likely mirroring the performance of the other goalies on the so-called “Blocker Pad Babes” that frequent the event.
