Coke Machine Fed Nickels, Aventinus

AUBURN HILLS– Every good news story requires the proper fuel: drama, pathos, and a Coke. All three were provided Monday following Aventinus’s comfortable 5-1 win over the Yaks 2, but curiously not from the game.

Woods’s story of obtaining a Coke retold in new Japanese anime: “Carbonated Beverage Boy”

While preparing to report the events of the game, beat writer Mark Woods discovered that his 20 oz. bottle of Coca Cola remained in the back seat of his car after several tense moments of looking in the refrigerator in vain. “I thought someone took it,” said Woods.

Woods looked out toward the vehicle and noted that weather conditions were simply not favorable. “It’s like 10 degrees out there,” he complained. “I’ll just get a Coke from the machine.”

Concern carefully worn upon his face, Woods picked through the “bag o’change” brought for such occasions, extracting the necessary nickels and precious few dimes until he could afford the refreshing carbonated drink.

“That was close,” said a relieved Woods. “I’m down to almost all pennies.”

The internal and external crisis averted, Woods was able to return to writing, only to discover a bigger problem: writer’s block.

“Uh, Jeff (Meden) scored twice, and so did Tom (Colis),” said Woods. “But how can I make it funny?”

Woods stated that he was hopeful that he might remember some on-ice antics later in the day.
