AUBURN HILLS– To the victor go the spoils, and no team was more deserving than Ashley’s Aventinus, who overcame a short bench, goalie absenteeism, and a late game comeback bid to beat the Goaldiggers 6-5 early Thursday to earn a chance to attend three meetings on about four hours of sleep. “If you know me, you know I love meetings,” said research analyst Mark Woods.

Dante’s original manuscript included a tenth ring of hell known as the Sala Conferenza or Conference Room (note: the meeting has already gone ten minutes past the work day)
The game started with a short bench, as several players were scratched for various injuries, including Justin Baier (back), Amy Senne (epic butt bruise), and Tom Colis (730am meeting in Lansing).
“When Tom said he had a meeting at 730am, I knew he was hurting,” said Woods. “Did I mention how much I love meetings?”
Despite a missing goalie for most of the period, the team managed to build a 4-1 lead to end the first on the strength of a Nate Greenman hat-trick and solid net-minding from defenseman Daryl “Fillin’ in for Phillion” Coleman. Ginny Klinesteker (goal, assist), Jeff Meden (goal, 2 assists), and Mark Woods (goal, assist) helped as the team survived a late flurry in the third to earn the victory.
“Jen Perry (assist) gave me a nice pass and I was able to put it past the goalie for the game winner,” said Woods. “Now, I get to spend seven hours in meetings listening to buzzwords like scalable, best practices, and move the needle.”
Woods noted that he was grateful for the prize of attending meetings. “Had we lost, our punishment would have been… to attend three meetings today,” he said.
“Yay,” added Woods.
