Payeur Finds, Fights New Buddy

ANN ARBOR– The 6-4 win over Thompson’s Pizza Tuesday was bittersweet for Ashley’s Ruination. Racking up an impressive eleven penalties totaling 51 minutes, the team conceded any chance of the Lady Byng team award (for sportsmanship and playing excellence), but felt confident in their chances for the Chandler Bing award.

“Could we be more in the penalty box?” asked GM Mark Woods.

However, winger Sean Payeur found a new buddy in Pizza winger Robert Weymouth as the two were nearly inseparable late in the third period.

“You (bleeping bleep)!” said Payeur to Weymouth.

The tone was set by Weymouth, who “cup checked” Anthony Ciatti (goal, assist) early in the first. Ciatti, taking exception, warned Weymouth, who reportedly responded, “I thought I was playing with men.”

Penalties from both sides continued throughout the game, heating up in the third period when Weymouth made several jabs at a puck covered by goaltender Paul Sholtis. An old-fashion donnybrook ensued that started with Al Juback sitting on Weymouth to several alleged head shots from Jordan Swift (goal). Payeur urged Juback to move away from his buddy so that he could get a clearer shot.

“I tried not to get any penalties this season,” lamented Payeur after the game. “And I was doing so well. I didn’t get any through the first three games!”

Matt Schaefer returned to score two goals, while Dave Winn registered his first points with a goal in the third. Sean McGrath added a goal for Ruination in the win.
