ANN ARBOR– “That’s him!” exclaimed forward Dave Ferguson following a 4-2 Aventinus win Wednesday to open the Spring 2014 campaign. “He’s the guy from Rio!”

Police use sophisticated animation techniques to develop a composite of Gorham, aka “Marcel,” an infamous Brazilian bird smuggler
Ferguson (assist), working in part with the CIA and the American Birding Association, identified goaltender Steve Gorham as “that guy from Rio,” also know as Marcel Santoro Ponce de Leon, an infamous bird smuggler who hails from Brazil, known simply as ‘Marcel’ in the seamy underbelly of Rio de Janeiro’s bird smuggling industry.
Marcel was last spotted in 2011 following a failed attempt to deliver two macaws to a mysterious dealer (thought to be international collector and forward Michael Leighton, who finished with a goal and two assists). U.S. and Brazilian agents noted that the trail had gone cold following his daring escape.
Rumors that Marcel had fled to the United States led agents to the Ann Arbor Ice Cube with the help of Ferguson, a noted fan of rare birds, surfing the Internet, and children’s animated movies, recognized Gorham immediately. “I said to myself, that’s the guy! He looks just like him!” said an excited Ferguson.
However, before agents could close in, Gorham dressed and quickly left the premises, despite a stellar performance in net. Fellow teammates, including Mark Johnston (goal), Ginny Klinesteker (goal), Justin Baier (goal), and Jen Perry (assist), had no comments as of press time. Leighton admitted that he and Gorham have been friends since grade school.
Gorham, who claims to be an environmental engineer, muttered mild curses, including “Soils!” under his breath just before leaving. Police claim that they will simply wait to see if he appears in Rio 2, released just two weeks ago, for clues regarding his whereabouts.
