ANN ARBOR– Ashley’s Ruination had just about everything from high drama to low comedy in their 7-10 loss to the Depot Town Stags Saturday night. Everything, that is, except extra skaters.
Using code names to designate positions, two crucial spots were missing: “Jon” and “Kate” which are typically defensive roles. “We expect Jon to be a more growing position, but one that shies from the lime light,” explained GM Mark Woods. “While we expect Kate to kinda sweep in and make ‘her’ presence felt.”
Added Woods: “Kate usually commands and demands a lot of attention.”
Woods said he was proud of the eight that showed for the game, commending their cherubic attitudes in light of the so-called missing parents. Andrew Thompson scored three goals, while Joel Benton and Paul Drevnick adding a goal and an assist each. Chris Sutton and Dave Winn each added a goal, while Sean McGrath and defenseman Mark Woods added two assists each.
“It was a good group effort, and had we a couple more skaters, we might have pulled this out,” said Woods. “But, I guess success can sometimes go to your head, and before you know it, you’re taking advantage of your situation, and not remembering that this is all about the kids.”
As Woods continued to speak, it became less clear if he was referring to hockey or some reality-TV show that hasn’t aired since 2011.
