ANN ARBOR– Despite the implication that a family with eight children is sufficient for anything from a Sacramento family from the 1970s to D1 team on a Saturday night, the reality proved untrue for Hopslam, as the team fell to Gates 4-6 despite taking a lead in the second period.
Luke Bell answered Gates’ first goal and Al Juback tied it again in the first period with only five players to start the game. With additional skaters coming in, Andrew Thompson gave the team a lead in the second and fought hard to keep the guys in the game with his second goal mid-way through the third period. However, it was not enough as the team ran out of gas.
Nate Greenman, returning to D1 hockey, added two assists, while defensemen Steve Gorham and Mark Woods each added assists.
“Eight is Enough?” asked Woods. “I don’t think so. Besides, I can’t get the theme song from The Greatest American Hero out of my head.”
