Woods takes on odd jobs to play hockey at the highest level

ANN ARBOR– Ashley’s Ruination absolutely dominated Mott Tuesday night in an 11-5 win, but not without controversy. “Can I see the scoresheet?” asked Mott’s Anthony Schirripa. What he saw put a derisive smile on his face.

Initially thought to be the two goals and assist each for newcomers James Jilek and Mike Weber, the bete noire was in fact the three dubious assists credited to defenseman Mark Woods in the third period. “I’m pretty sure I was on the bench for each of the last three goals,” admitted Woods. “But, I’ll take it if it means I have more negotiating power when my contract runs up.”

At last check, Woods is making the league minimum. In fact, rumors persist that he, in fact, has paid in excess of $1,200 to play this season. Though not completed substantiated, rumors further persist that several trips to the blood bank have funded the season, explaining light-headedness and shaky skating skills.

Abe Colwell, however, was unconvinced. “You’d better be careful,” he warned Woods. “Or I might have to put you on the ‘watch list.'” Colwell was referencing a list of players that are monitored to determine moves up into higher leagues.

Woods protested mildly, noting that against B-League skaters, he has the ability to force them to delay scoring for “at least half a second or so” by skating around him rather than simply skating a straight line.

Brian Lefevre scored three goals, while Dave Winn added a goal and an assist. Matt Schaefer, Sean McGrath, and Shawn Lopez (goal, assist) also scored.
