Teams Gear for Playoffs

Aventinus (5-9-8) finished 8th of eleven teams in Tier III to set up a Wildcard showdown with ninth-place Barracuda (7-13-2) on Stadium Ice. The team finished the season strong, gathering two wins and a tie in the final three games.

“I think the main difference was having stable forward lines,” stated forward Dave Ferguson in discussing the last season surge. Defense may have also played a role, as the team allowed only 45 goals this season (2.05 gpg), third best in the league.

The puck is set to drop at 1050pm Sunday.

Hopslam (6-12-2) ended their season 6th of seven teams (Tier II) with a disappointing loss to the last place Yaks-2 (6-13-1) Tuesday night.

The team looks to rebound in the playoffs, and will most likely face the Ice Men (10-7-2) Tuesday (950pm), who trail the Ice Dogs (12-7-0) by two points coming into Saturday’s finale.

The 2nd-seeded Ruination (17-5-1) will tune up for the Tier I playoff push this Saturday, facing a very thirsty Beer Belly Brewing (6-13-4), who is tied with Thompson’s Pizza (6-13-4) for sixth and seventh. Ruination may very well face the Belly again next Tuesday.

When asked about teams’ strategies, player/manager Mark Woods stated, “Guys can now pay for next season online with our PayPal option.”

“I also have a nifty credit card reader for my smartphone,” Woods added.

Playoffs for Ashley’s Ruination will begin at 945pm Tuesday night.
