Writer Speaks of Daring Escape, Aventinus Tied Up

ANN ARBOR– Ashley’s sports writer Mark Woods spoke recently of his daring escape only days ago from some undisclosed location in Europe, making his way back incredibly through impossible odds to report Aventinus’s 2-2 tie with the Leafs Sunday night. “It was an incredible experience, but worth it to see that (goaltender) Austin Feeney played an amazing game,” said Woods.

Held captive for weeks under house arrest, Woods and several other writers on assignment tried to escape by cover of night, only to find agents waiting for them at the end of the darkened driveway. The group, however, managed to avoid immediate punishment by claiming to be part of a competitive singing group heading to a festival.

“We didn’t know if we were going to make it, but I knew I had to get back to witness Jeff Phillion’s two goals against the Leafs’ stingy defense,” Woods said.

Woods noted that he was happy to have gotten away, saying that he has no wish to “hide out in cemeteries” or climb up and around the Swiss Alps ever again.” He also mentioned that the hot cocoa there was “quite good.”
