Writer Speaks of Daring Escape, Hopslam Captures Big Foot

ANN ARBOR–Ashley’s sports writer Mark Woods spoke recently of his daring escape Tuesday from the so-called hum-drum of office life, using a “personal day” while engine problems were assessed by the local Chevrolet dealer near Detroit, MI. “I wasn’t sure what to make of the ‘check engine’ light, but I remembered my training, and managed to get the car back in working order in time to witness one of the best team games ever played by Hopslam.”

Experiencing trouble in early January, Woods brought in his 2012 Chevy Camaro in to determine the cause of the “check engine” light being activated. Analysts determined a faulty sensor and an abundance of carbon build-up. Accusations of using any gas lower than 92 octane were levied, but receipts dated as far back 2009 show Woods using only premium-grade gasoline.

“To use anything less would risk the health of my car, and I need to be there to report the games,” said Woods, somewhat offended by the allegations. Kevin Lao set the tone for the game with an early goal, later adding two assists and a bruised jaw in the 8-1 win Tuesday night over Sasquatch. Ryan Williams and David Gaydos each had two goals and an assist, while Bob Brock, Shawn Lopez, and Chris Sutton scored. Matt Okray played brilliantly, giving up the lone goal with only seconds left in the game.

“The car’s engine light kept coming on and off, until I finally decided I needed to take it in,” continued Woods. “I took some personal time, which is not quite sick time, and not quite vacation time, but it’s away from the office time.”

Added Woods: “And that means party time.”

Woods then clarified by noting that several hours were spent answering emails from his boss, and several other administrative “big-wigs.” However, he noted that the alternative– sitting in his office answering emails– was far worse. “I have a 27-inch iMac and a fake fireplace space heater and a TV cranking out some Days of Our Lives while ‘working.’ That’s escaping the rat race… sorta.”
