Mott C fans came into Saturday’s game hoping to pull off an upset, but did not see that as a realistic outcome, especially after the end of the first period. “With a 2-0 lead after the first, the stands were silent as Mott C fans had that sinking feeling,” said sports analyst Chris Berman. “But that’s why they play the games.”

What followed was a nightmare to Michigan fans all over as their beloved Ruination gave up seven goals in the next two periods before adding a goal with only a couple of minutes left to play.

“Mistakes were made,” said coach Mark Woods. “Mistakes were made.”

The first starts with recruiting. After bringing in what analysts called the best new talent “since last year,” Ruination roared to a 7-1 start. However, the team looked they didn’t even bother to show up following the first period. Whether it was a coaching decision, or a lack of physically being present, top players such as Andrew Thompson, Jeff Houtemann, and Chris Sutton failed to score in any of the three periods.

“You’re not going to win a lot of games when your best players get shut down like that,” said Woods.

When asked if he thought his coaching job might be called into question, Woods said he hoped that people might be distracted by other sports outcomes, but admitted that no job is more in the spotlight than the C-league hockey coach’s position.
