Feeney Teaches Hockey Fundamentals, Dance

ANN ARBOR– Following Aventinus’s 3-3 tie with Mott FK Wednesday night, goaltender Austin Feeney helped teammates by showing them the fundamentals of footwork and stick-handling, and by extension, the joy of dance.

“It was a good game, but we could have won it if we could just get to the next level,” said GM Mark Woods. “Austin’s helping us do that.”

“And if we should we the dance off against our arch rivals– Wade’s crew– well, then they’ll know they got served,” added Woods.

Feeney revealed goaltenders’ weaknesses, showing teammates proper footwork and positioning for faking a shot and skating around the goalie. “You want to set your shoulders like this,” he demonstrated. The posture both helps to fool goalies and resembles the “seventh position” in ballet, also known as “en pointe.”

Forward Ginny Klinesteker (goal, assist) expressed excitement over the lesson, as did forward Kenny Schmidt, who could not wait to score and use his “jazz hands.”

John Hwang and Ed Boucher each scored, and Scott Bray added an assist.
