ANN ARBOR– Following its 5-2 victory over Mott FK Sunday night, Ashley’s Aventinus was lauded by U.S. Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera in a poem lauding the players and the game.
What fear in
better bitter beer
can be seen by the seer?
They’ve got nuttin’
on Sutton. No goal
for foal
or mutton.
Woods on delay
Words do not play
Yet, can’t lose
wearing his Fantastic Four
blue Underoos.
Coleman Ron,
Coleman Ken,
Out, but not so soon forgotten
now or then.
Song sung in carol
with the other brother
Coleman Daryl.
Bill and Tom in excellence
with two a piece
in recompense
Added on with Kurt Christie’s.
A line making sense.
The wins like gifts
give one to pause
and say, Yes Virginia Klinesteker,
there is a Santa Clause.
Critics openly questioned the authenticity of Herrera’s poem, saying it was either the work of “some hack, or else… (Herrera) was [bleep] drunk when he wrote that clap trap.”
Herrera is known for such poems as “Blood on the Wheel,” “Enter the Void,” and “Grafik.”
As noted, Colis and McDermott each had two goals, and Christie added a goal. Colis had two assists, and Woods added three more assists in the win. Aventinus plays Wednesday against Barracuda.
