Miss Colombia Mistakenly Named D2 Champion

LAS VEGAS– Following a turbulent and competitive match, Miss Colombia was mistakenly named the D2 Champion Sunday night following an earlier mishap in the Miss Universe Pageant. “I no win?” asked Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez.

“Please don’t hold this against the ladies,” said an embarrassed Steve Harvey. “But the winner is…”

After a brief pause and showing the cameras the actual score sheet, Harvey announced: “Aventinus is the winner!”

Harvey later tweeted an apology, misspelling the names of each team: “I want to apologize emphatically to Mop FK and Advent-us. I don’t even watch hockey.”

The game itself was a defensive struggle for the ages, with both teams waiting for the other to make a mistake. Bruce Connor was able to capitalize with just over three minutes left in the game, sliding the puck past the goal-line, after Kurt Christie and Tom Colis dug it out from behind the net.

Colis added the empty-netter with 0:28 sec left to ensure the win. Chris Sutton notched his second shut-out in net with the 2-0 win.

Though the trophy was snatched away from Miss Colombia and handed to Aventinus by referees who quickly left the scene, Gitierrez said that “It (the trophy) will always be with me.”

In fact, it will not, as the team will return the trophy to the Ann Arbor Ice Cube to have the team name engraved onto the trophy, where it will sit until next season’s champion is crowned. As of press time, Miss Venezuela is the favorite to win.
