ANN ARBOR– Following its long and winding journey, the Lord Cowell’s Cup (affectionately known as the Ann Abe-or Trophy) returned to its place in Ashley’s Ruination’s hallowed halls after a thrilling 5-4 win in the C-League Championships. “It’s been a full year since the boys got to hold the cup,” said GM Mark Woods, who returned as manager just 0:14 seconds before Ruination clinched the game. “It was a team effort.”

Indeed, it was, as five different players scored, including Ricky Winowiecki, John Vella, Sean Hazaray, Bruce Connor, and Chris Sutton with the game and series winner. “Crazy game,” said Sutton, who later announced that with his shoot out win in the semi-finals and his Game 3 winner he would formally change his last name to “Stud-on.”

The game included many other players contributing, including assists from Andrew Cieslinski (2), Matt Okray, Matthew Johnson, Michael Lang, and Andrew Thompson.

Anthony Ciatti notched his first championship as the netminder for the team, posting a 4-1 record and a 3.20 GAA.

Okray also chipped in with six penalty minutes, while Cieslinski, Sean McGrath, and Ryan Williams added three minutes a piece in the box for good measure. Defenseman Mark Woods, however, may have contributed the most to the victory, by not playing at all.

To celebrate, the team drank a couple of beers in the locker room, buckled the trophy up, and carefully placed it at Ashley’s Headquarters, dubbed by Winowiecki as the team’s “Christmastime table decoration.”

Added Winowiecki: “The wink and the gun was for you.”

The wink and the gun was for all of us, Ricky.

Congratulations on another great season!
