Forecast Calls for Flurries Late, Aventinus

Ashley’s Aventinus (4-7-1) went on what can be described as a scoring spree Wednesday night, beating Mott FK (2-7-2) in a 4-1 match.

The two teams played a scoreless match for the first two periods before defenseman Daryl Coleman opened the third with a nice backhand shot. Mott tied it up three and a half minutes later, getting one past goaltender Ryan Bidwell, who has given up only two goals in the last two games.

Aventinus padded their lead with a flurry of goals– two from center Justin Baier, and one from forward Ginny Klinesteker. “Our forwards came alive,” said defenseman Ron Coleman.

“I kept hacking at the goalie until he finally kicked it in,” said Klinesteker.

Mott’s goalie was reportedly overheard saying that the incident had parallels to his home life, with the words “wife” and “taking out the garbage” peppered with expletives.

The win gives Aventinus its first back-to-back victories of the season, and has sparked talk of making a late season run to the playoffs.

“I wouldn’t call it a streak just yet,” said Klinesteker. “If we win one more, then I’d call it a streak.”

“We’re going streaking!” exclaimed Will Ferrell in the 2003 film Old School.

Aventinus will square up against the D2 Yaks (3-6-2) Sunday.
