No Coasting to Victory, Aventinus

Ashley’s Aventinus (4-9-1) fell to North Coast (11-4) Sunday night 2-5 in a game that seemed just out of reach. Despite the score, Paul Sholtis had a strong game in net. “It would have been 10-2 without you, Paul,” said winger Mark Johnston.

Tied after the first on the strength of defenseman Jen Perry’s goal, North Coast quickly regained the lead to start the second, adding to it twelve minutes later. “What should I do better, coach?” Perry asked on the bench.

The team fought hard throughout, managing another goal from winger Scott Bray with a minute and a half to go. Joe Crossno had two assists, and Daryl Coleman added an assist as well.

“I thought the team played really well,” said GM Mark Woods. “The goals against remained the same (from last game), but we added two goals for this weekend. Much like the Sequester, it’s not really a loss so much as it is a slow down in growth.”

Officials, however, had to explain to Woods that when another team scores more points, the team with fewer points in fact loses the game, and that the parallel drawn really wasn’t applicable. It was also pointed out that the team might win more games if Woods paid less attention to national politics and economics and on to more important things, like Tier II hockey.

Despite the loss, the team remained in high spirits, largely due to beer and cookies, supplied by forward Ginny Klinesteker, who celebrated a birthday Sunday.

“Happy Birthday, Ginny!” toasted Johnston.
