Leafs Win Not a Breeze

Aventinus (4-11-2) finished its season with a 2-4 loss to the unbeaten Leafs Wednesday night. “We have nothing to be ashamed of,” said a proud Ron Coleman.

The Leafs struck first in the first, but Justin Baier scored from a nice breakout feed from Ron Coleman to tie it up in the second. “That’s two  games in a row I was able to hit Justin with a pass up the middle,” said Coleman.

The Leafs, however, had an answer, taking back the lead with a penalty shot after Daryl Coleman dove to try and stop a breakaway opportunity. The Leafs increased their lead to 3-1 in the third before Joe Crossno was able to make it a one-goal game with a slap shot from the face-off.

“It was really a 3-2 game,” said Ginny Klinesteker, “except that they scored on an empty-netter at the end.”

Aventinus started the evening in 8th place with 10 points, but will fall to 9th place, as Miller Lite and Mott Foster Kids faced off, each with nine points. A tie would draw Miller Lite’s record even with Aventinus, but the tie-breaker (goals for) would give the nod to the cheaper beer.

The team will face the winner this Sunday night at 9:45 pm on Olympic Ice, calling on the luck of the Irish for the win. A strict diet of beer (preferably green), sitting on the couch (preferably lying), and napping (preferably while “watching” hockey) has been recommended by team trainers.
