Writer’s Strike Ends in Time for Playoffs

The Ashley’s Network experienced a so-called writer’s strike earlier in the week, lasting several tense hours as management met with union representatives to negotiate a “back-to-work” call Tuesday morning.

“I’m just glad everything was settled and we’re back to work,” said beat writer Mark Woods.

Among the complaints levied included lack of wages and increased pressure from league sources, who have reportedly withheld statistical information regarding the games. Much of the arguments, however, are of little concern to the fans, who have at least a passing interest in the articles.

“Where are the witty write ups from the Saturday games?” demanded long-time subscriber Steve Gorham.

“I never go to the website,” said a surly Scott Coates between sips of beer and icy stares.

Recapping the Games

Ashley’s Ruination managed to pull within a goal in the final minutes of play Saturday night, but an empty netter with less than a minute sealed the win for Black Ops 5-3. Ruination will face this same team tonight in the Semi-final round of the C-league Tier I playoffs.

Ashley’s Hopslam suffered a similar fate, dropping to the Yaks 1-2 Saturday. Mike Leighton had a chance to tie it up in the final seconds, but shot it just wide. Hopslam will face the Ice Men tonight in their D-1 Quarterfinal match-up. When asked what the strategy will be, GM Mark Woods noted a “fool-proof” two-part plan: “First, acquire team fees, then win championships!” When pressed how exactly that will be accomplished, Woods simply repeated the two-part plan.
