Two Tiers Justified By Woods Goal

League director Abe Colwell felt good about his decision to maintain an upper and lower tier in the C-league after even defenseman Mark Woods was able to score against lower division Cleveland Steamers, who reportedly won the lower tier championship last season. Ruination pummeled the Steamers 7-2 Saturday night, capped off by Woods’ goal early in the third period.

GM Mark Woods, however, maintains the league needs to eliminate the tier system. “Yes, Mark scored a goal, and yes, that’s rare, but that is by no means justification for a so-called upper and lower tier,” stated Woods. “Their goalie (Sean Garland) was pretty shell shocked. Just about anybody could have scored at that point.”

Indeed, other goal scorers included Sean McGrath, John Molnar, Matt Schaefer, and two from winger John Vella. A combine 8 assists were handed out, including two from defenseman Brett Vogel, two from center Devin Collingridge, and two from McGrath.

The team, having lost their last two to Goon Squad, including the championship game, were decidedly relieved to get “back on track,” noted by several skaters. “I’m going to Ashley’s!” exclaimed Steve Pouliot. “I’ll even drink by myself if I have to.”

Asked about the game, referee Jack Wallace said, “That was the best goal I’ve seen (Woods) score.” In all likelihood, it was the only goal he’s seen him score, making his statement still factually correct.
