Heartache Tonight for North Coast

Don’t look now, but there’s a new kid in town. Just six games into the new season, Ashley’s Aventinus (4-1-1) has already equaled its number of wins from last season after topping North Coast 2-1 last night to keep pace with the powerhouse Leafs. Jeff Phillion and Chris Sutton each had a goal in the first period and have played a large part in revitalizing the proud franchise, formerly known as the Eagles.

“I was able to only get one goal,” lamented Phillion.

Shawn Lopez, strong in net, did not take it easy, allowing just one goal mid-way through the third period. ESPN Beer League, dubbing him “Save-pez,” praised the performance as part of a “glorious victory.”

Defenseman Ron Coleman called it a “great team effort,” noting that the team was equal to the task of pressuring North Coast one of these nights, particularly Wednesday night. “Our new philosophy of playing aggressive at all times seems to be working,” said a cautiously optimistic Coleman.

“The team looks great,” said GM Mark Woods, “but we’ve got to think about the long run. I can’t tell you why, but I just feel like we’ve got something here, if we can take it to the limit one more time.”

“Seven bridges road,” added Woods.
