Love Conquers All: Aventinus, Leafs

Ashley’s Aventinus (5-1-2) got its first shut out, though was not able to overcome questionable reffing as the game ended in a 0-0 tie Wednesday night against the Leafs. Goaltender Ryan “Seacrest” Bidwell dazzled the crowd with save after save, including several deflections from his own team and a glove save from point blank range that impressed even the first place Leafs.

“Ryan was really dancing with the stars,” said GM Mark Woods, mixing up his reality TV shows.

However, the real mix-up happened in third period, when center Jeff Phillion was hauled downed by Leaf Ken Williams. Williams proceeded to yell at the referees, then attacked Phillion. Referee Harry Love proceeded to give both skaters roughing penalties. Coaches argued that Aventinus should have had the man-advantage, but the argument fell on deaf ears.

The other referee (Silvennoinen) explained to Love that Williams received two penalties, prompting Love to give Phillion an additional unsportsmanlike conduct.

“I want it even,” said Love.

Judging from the score, it appears he got his wish.

Team officials gave this statement: “No referee can do this on their own. As ironic as it is to say, we needed Silvennoinen out there, too. As, Patty Smyth and Don Henley know so well, sometimes Love just ain’t enough.”
