Eight Is Enough for Hopslam

Ashley’s Hopslam (6-3) continue their streak with their third straight win, beating Cubs AC 4-1 Saturday night with only eight skaters.

“Where is everybody?” asked center Scott Coates.

“Where were you last game?” asked Bob Brock to Coates.

Coates, who was noticeably absent last Tuesday night, withdrew his question.

Bob Brock opened the night with a goal mid-way through the first period. Mike Leighton scored two goals, including a controversial goal in the third period that had the Cubs bench up in arms. Speculation ran high on both sides, with Leighton confident it was a goal. Referees Jack Wallace and DJ Olszewski agreed.

Goaltender Paul Sholtis was strong in net, giving up only one goal. “That was my fault,” said defenseman Brad Johnson. Johnson cheated over to the strong side of the play, allowing Cub Jeff Hughey to sneak in and slam the rebound home.

Matt Schaefer scored late in the third, ensuring the victory. Lopez had two assists. “I should have had two assists,” said Coates.

The team finished the evening drinking beer and blaming younger generations for not respecting their elders, then blaming the older generations for raising terrible  kids. The younger team members simply shook their heads and quietly let the old men rant.
