Nothing Fishy About Aventinus Win

Ashley’s Aventinus (6-1-2) extended its unbeaten streak to six games, beating Barracuda 5-2 Sunday night with three power play goals, a natural hattrick from Jeff Phillion, and a whole lot of assists from Joe Crossno (3) and Chris Boulter (2).

“Finally woke up,” said Phillion of his play this season. He now leads the team in goals with eight for the season.

The team started off a bit sluggishly, but managed to open a lead about mid-way through the first period with Chris Boulter’s goal. However, Barracuda answered back with a power play goal from defenseman David Stoddard. Les Withrow regained the lead early in the second, but Barracuda stayed in the game, scoring early in the third.

Winger Ginny Klinesteker, returning to the team for first time since April 7, said the period made her “nauseous,” though she refused to elaborate to the press. “It’s not that I don’t want to talk. My stomach is just killing me.”

“We played their game for two periods,” said defenseman Ron Coleman, who had an assist. “But after they tied it up in the third, we started playing our style and won.”

“Of course it helped that Jeff got a hat trick in the third,” added Coleman.

“We went into the game expecting to win,” said Phillion. Three goals later from Phillion, that’s exactly what happened.

Center Chris Sutton, who was asked to scout the Barracuda team and mistakenly took that as a request to fish for Barracuda, praised teammates from an undisclosed coastal town in Florida, “Awesome. Thanks!”
