RUINATION– Following their thrilling 5-5 tie with Yaks B of the B2 League Monday night, GM Mark Woods announced that forward Shawn Lopez will be named the franchise player for the new Ashley’s Bud Light Lime team. “After scoring two goals and dishing out an assist after flying in from across the country just to make it to the game, it’s evident he’s the real deal,” said Woods.
“I almost didn’t make it [to the game],” admitted Lopez. “I was so tired.”
With only skaters, Ruination fell behind 1-4 before roaring back to take a 5-4 lead. Matt Okray was solid in net in his Ashley’s debut, after being called up. Nate Greenman also answered the clarion call with 2 goals. Austin Feeney added a goal, while Chris Sutton had two assists.
However, everyone agreed that Lopez was clearly the star of the show. “We look forward to his move up and to great success in the B-league,” said Woods.
HOPSLAM– Following Hopslam’s 7-3 win, GM Mark Woods announced that Shawn Lopez’s lackluster effort in Tuesday night’s game was the deciding factor in his decision to move him to the D2 Aventinus team. “Shawn’s a great guy, and the team loves him, and this is a tough decision,” said Woods. “But, I’m sure everyone understands it’s about what’s best for the team.”
“The guy barely had two assists,” said Woods, defending his decision. “Even (defenseman) Mark Woods had two assists, and the guy uses new skates as an excuse for sucking!”
Scott Coates had the hat trick despite missing the first period due a persistent lower body infection requiring periodic cleansing and rinsing, while Chris Sutton and Peter Girz each added two goals in the win.
Lopez expressed disappointment in the decision, but hoped to one day improve enough to make it in the league, perhaps even as high as the C or even B leagues. “Maybe,” said Woods in a non-committal tone.
